When twin brothers Murdo and Kenny MacLeod founded the parent company, M&K MacLeod Ltd, in 1975, it was as a basic house kit manufacturer and builder. Today, from its factory in Lochgilphead, Argyll, not only does the firm manufacture and erect varying styles and types of residential and commercial buildings but it also specialises in quarrying, UPVC double glazing and conservatories, and the operation of a filling station.

The Company now owns two quarries, a service station and rented accommodation, and is the largest timber frame designer and manufacturer in the region - with over 30 years of experience in the timber frame industry; the business has become a force to be reckoned with.

The company's directors have stated that adjustments to working practices and ever-changing legislation have forced MacLeod to continually update the business. "In the early 80s we could see the need and demand for aluminium and UPVC double glazing", says the company. "Natural progression led us to manufacture and install conservatories. Due to the wet climate on the West coast, UPVC is a lasting alternative to wood".

MacLeod Construction may have been founded on traditional house building values, but it has successfully incorporated modern practices and remains an innovator when it comes to materials, production and management.

"We have used our rural location to our advantage by manufacturing components in-house, thus removing the supply chain difficulties associated with remote areas. This allows us to be competitive in all areas of Argyll," the directors added.
